The district administration has received 30,986 applications for sheep units. These applicants were segregated into A list (15,501) B list (15,345). While the beneficiaries in the A list will be covered in the first year the remaining will be covered during next year.
The beneficiaries will be selected through draw of lots.
In the first phase only 2,347 units will be distributed to those in the A list. The Government had allocated ₹ 21.19 crore for this purpose.
A central team comprising veterinary doctors and other officials had visited Belgavi, Haveri, Bijapur and Gulbarga in Karnataka and Kurnool and Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. Animal Husbandry Joint Director Rama Rao Rathod said on Thursday that the beneficiaries along with officials concerned would visit those selected areas and buy the sheep units.
However, he could not answer whether the sellers were ready to part with the cattle for the price being offered by the Government.
While beneficiaries need to contribute ₹ 31.250, the Government would offer a subsidy of ₹ 93,750.
Out of this ₹ 1,11,000 would be used for the purchase of sheep (20 female and one male) while the remaining amount would be used for transportation, transit insurance and sheep insurance.
