The Lok Satta Udyama Samstha has found fault with the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) for converting the municipal parks into vermicompost pits by dumping the garbage on the park premises.
The MCK authorities have launched the construction of vermicompost pits in all the municipal parks in Karimnagar town on Saturday with an aim to convert the garbage into manure. They said that they had taken the decision to convert garbage into manure instead of setting fire and causing pollution.
However, the Lok Satta district unit leaders said that the construction of vermicompost in the municipal parks would cause pollution and affect the serene atmosphere of the parks. In a press note here today, Lok Satta district president N. Srinivas and general secretary Prakash Holla said that the construction of vermicompost pits in the parks was against the Supreme court directions. Quoting the Supreme Court verdict, they said that the government has no jurisdiction to convert the site reserved for park or play ground for other purposes.
Reminding that the State High court had given clear instructions against any constructions in municipal park in Vavilalapalli locality in the town, they flayed the municipal authorities for the construction of the pits illegally. Clarifying that they were not against any constructions in the government open lands, they were opposing the vermicompost in the parks as it would affect the health of walkers and others with its pungent smell.
They urged the municipal authorities totake up such works on the outskirts of the town.
