KLIP receiving steady inflows into Godavari at Medigadda

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) is receiving steady inflows at Medigadda barrage in Mahadevpur mandal in Jayashankar-Bhupalapalli district.

On Saturday, the Godavari was receiving around 12,000 cusecs of water at Tekra upstream of Kannepalli, the catchment area in neighbouring states.

Medigadda barrage against its full capacity of 16.17 tmcft, received 5.5 tmcft of water and the backwaters reached 18 kilometers distance. Three pumps are running continously and 2300 cusecs is being pumped from each. About 6,900 cusecs of water was being pumped out from Kannepalli pump house to the Annaram barrage.

Through gravity about 2.82 tmcs of water received till Saturday evening against the full capacity of 10.87 tmcs at Annaram barrage and the back water in Godavari is spread up to 30 km upstream of Annaram, official sources said.

Offered prayers

Peddapalli ZP chairman Putta Madhukar offered prayers to the river Godavari at Annaram barrage site by offering coins to the river waters. In the meantime, the people were thronging in large numbers to have a glimpse of the river water flowing from the downstream to the upper reaches of the Godavari river belt in the district.
