‘KCR failed to implement poll promises’

June 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

The CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said that his party will mobilise thousands of beedi workers to lay siege to the official residence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao if he fails to sanction Aasara pensions to all the uncovered beedi workers by the end of this month.

“We have been appealing to the government time and again for sanction of Rs.1,000 monthly pension to all the beedi workers, but our requests fell on deaf ears. Therefore, we have no other go but bring pressure on the Chief Minister by gathering a huge number of beedi workers in front of his house,” he said while addressing the beedi workers meeting here on Tuesday.

One year has elapsed since Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao assumed charge as the Chief Minister. But, he failed to implement his electoral promises of constructing two-bedroom houses for all the eligible poor families, distribution of three acre land to each Dalit family and sanction of Aasara pensions to the beedi workers and so on, he said. There was over 50 lakh acres of government land available in the State. On one hand the Chief Minister said the land was available for giving away to Dalit families for cultivation and also for construction of houses. On the other, officials pulled him back. This was the practice going for the last one year indicating the lack of sincerity on the part of the Chief Minister and his government, he said.
