MLC Kavita Kalvakuntla lashed out at the ‘ignorance’ of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the paddy production in Telangana while comparing it with other states.
She ridiculed the BJP and Congress for trying to compare Telangana with Chhattisgarh, a state that produces just 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy while Telangana alone produces 80 lakh metric tonnes. “This is not only like comparing apples and oranges, but also exposes their ignorance,” she said in a tweet.
The MLC said that Telangana produces over 40% of India’s paddy with over 61 lakh farmers cultivating it this season. Isn’t the duty and responsibility of the Centre to support those farmers, she asked while alleging that the BJP government was anti- farmer.
“The way the Centre brutally left our paddy farmers in the lurch, speaks volumes about their outlook towards farmers and sections that need government support,” she said while complimenting Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekhar Rao for stepping in to purchase the paddy that Centre refused to buy.
