The State government’s new industrial policy has come as a boon to the district, which has abundant natural resources in coal, water, limestone, granite, and iron ore. Karimnagar also tops in agricultural produces such as cotton, paddy and maize.
The new policy would also give a fillip to the growth of industries in the region and provide employment to local youth.
Abundant land
Official sources said they had identified about 55,000 acres of government land for opening various industries.
Presently, only the Ramagundam coal belt region has major industries such as Singareni Collieries Company Limited, NTPC, Kesoram Cements and TSGenco power plant.
The NTPC unit at Ramagundam, which now generates 2,600 MW of power, would see the addition of another 1,600 MW with more plants plants coming up in another three years. Besides, it is also mulling capacity addition of another 2,400 MW because of availability of better availability of coal, water and other resources.
More coal mining
There are abundant coal reserves and SCCL would be mining more coal to meet the growing demand. There is scope for the opening up of more cement industries in the district due to availability of limestone reserves.
Subsidiary units
The new industrial policy would also facilitate the opening up of ancillary units to provide input material for SCCL, NTPC and the Kesoram cement factory in the region.
Such units can churn out products such as non-ferric alum, ferric alum, buckets, roof supporters, nuts and bolts, HDPE bags, RCC pipes, etc.
Step-up for Sircilla
The textile town of Sircilla, which already has a textile park with modern powerlooms to produce value-added fabrics, could be further developed with more textile industries if more manpower and cotton produce is available.
The granite industry, which produces the popular Tan Brown and Maple Red variety, would also get a boost as the quarry owners have been demanding that the district be declared Telangana’s ‘Granite Corridor’.
As the district tops in paddy, maize, cotton, mango, turmeric and other crops, several agro-based industries would also come up to boost the economy of farmers.
