Students from Department of Biomedical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) were shortlisted in BioAsia 2015 Healthcare Devthon which was held on January 25.
Shortlisted
The team from IITH developed a prototype of an app called Dexter- Physician Assistant, to become one of the six teams to be shortlisted.
The idea of Dexter is based on "Patient management system", Electronic Medical record(EMR) which typically collects, stores and transmits patient data for future use and transmits data to higher centres. Dexter integrates with the EMR and its main functionality is in providing in-patient data on-the-fly to the doctor. It can be thought of as a digital "case-sheet" but it will work much more than that - It will help in managing cross consultations, patients examined in emergency room and overall effective patient management.
To help doctors
This software is intended to help doctors in better management of patients in the hospitals especially in critical care departments where limited qualified personnel have to handle dozens of critical patients (in different wards) whose changing parameters have to be closely monitored.
Dr Inayathullah Ghori MBBS, PhD Student at BME, IITH, and the team leader said: "Having worked as a Cardiology Registrar I believe that this software can be a game changer in prevention of medical errors, in reducing doctors’ work-stress and most importantly provide better service to patients"
Team members
The team Members are Dr. Inayathullah Ghori, Vaibhav Phad, Shivam Gupta, Vivek, Srushti. C and two more students from Kendriya Vidyalaya.
