One of Hyderabad’s most consistent batsmen, Bavanaka Sandeep, has been selected to play for India Red in the Duleep Trophy cricket championship by the senior national selection panel.

“It is a huge opportunity and solid performances can make a huge difference to my career,” the 26-year-old southpaw, who played 44 Ranji games and was the lead scorer for Hyderabad last season, informed The Hindu .

“I will be playing with pink ball for the first time and so the real preparations will be only when I reach Chennai for the championship,” he said.

He does not think there will be any pressure on him as all he had to do was to stick to basics and score runs.

He does not contemplate changing style of batting too for it was more suited for the four-day format.

Sandeep rates his double century against Services in Mumbai in 2016 season as his most satisfying performance.

He believes his strong points were his temperament and the ability to keep the scoreboard ticking with singles and twos, not just with boundaries. “Yes, it will be a big opportunity to play in Duleep Trophy and hope to come good,” he concluded.
