Hike in railway platform ticket rates is unjustified

April 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST

A 100 per cent hike in the price of a platform ticket from the previous fare of Rs.5 is totally unjustifiable. It should be rolled back. People rarely buy platform tickets as checks are not conducted frequently. Necessary steps should be initiated to increase vigilance on those who do not purchase platform tickets.

Rash driving is

a serious offence

The Supreme Court has rightly urged lawmakers to consider a change in law so that rash and negligent driving causing death may invite more stringent punishment. The directive comes at a time when Bollywood star Salman Khan faces trial in Mumbai on charges of running over sleeping pavement dwellers in 2002. A vehicle is not a toy but a potentially dangerous machine. It is time the government entered into a serious discussion with all stakeholders to enhance punis-hments for careless use of vehicles, including stringent punishments for erring regulatory authorities. Apart from death and injuries, it ruins families, strains our hospitals and creates lifelong disabilities.

High school sessions

should begin early

Classes for high school in Telangana should start early this year, due to the size of the revised syllabi, which is very heavy. This would help the students prepare for all three phases of tests or examinations in the year. I request the concerned department to look into this aspect.

Run daily trains to Vizag

From April 1, the reservation facility in trains has been extended to 120 days. It is surprising to see that trains to Rajahmundry on July 1 are all full.

Same is the situation of the return journey. I request the South Central Railway authorities to run daily trains between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam in the evening hours, preferably after the departure of the Godavari Express, from July 14 to 25, to cater to the needs of the public, who want to travel to Rajahmundry for Pushkarams during that period.
