Health scheme for govt. employees remains ineffective

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - ADILABAD:

The State government employees in Adilabad questioned the utility of the Employees Health Scheme launched by the government given the inadequacies at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here. There being no super-speciality treatment at the hospital, the effort of the State government to provide cashless treatment for chronic diseases will prove unfruitful, opined chairman of Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers, S. Ashok.

At a press conference here on Saturday, the employee leader welcomed the implementation of the EHS and the guidelines which have been issued. He, however, was sceptical of the treatment to be provided in Adilabad.

“The scheme envisages treatment for as many as 25 chronic diseases, but in the absence of doctors or equipment, there is no scope for such treatment. He demanded facilities like MRI, endoscopy, 2D echo or kidney dialysis equipment at the hospital for the scheme to be effective.

Mr. Ashok also pointed out the shortage of staff at the RIMS and the delay in giving investigation reports. He said even these minor problems will serve as an irritant while providing medical services.
