In the backdrop of severe criticism by the opposition parties over the release of Singur water to Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said that the interests of the erstwhile undivided Medak district will be protected and people need not worry over the issue.

In a release here on Tuesday, Mr. Harish Rao said that 16 tmcft is being stored in the Singur to meet the drinking water and irrigation requirements of those areas and the remaining water is being diverted to meet the drinking water and irrigation requirements of both Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts.

“About 4 tmcft of will be there to meet the summer requirement under Ghanapur project followed by 2 tmcft for irrigation and another two and a half tmcft for drinking water purpose. Still there will be another 7.5 tmcft water in Singur and hence there will be no problem. Congress or BJP have no moral right to speak on Singur water,” commented Mr. Harish Rao.
