TRS MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday resigned to his post as honorary president of Road Transport Corporation Telangana Mazdoor Union.

In his resignation letter sent to union general secretary Aswathama Reddy, Mr. Rao noted that he was unable to spare time to union activities as he was occupied with other responsibilities after formation of Telangana State. The union was formed with a view to have one for RTC in the movement for separate Telangana. He had agreed to lead the union to promote the role of RTC workers in the movement.

Mr. Rao had been the honorary president of the union since its inception in 2011. But, he had never once attended its meetings nor negotiated on its behalf with the management on workers’ issues.

Working president of the union Maramreddy Thomas Reddy said nothing should be read into the resignation as Mr. Rao had spoken his mind a week ago. The central committee of the union will meet and resolve to request the Chief Minister to appoint a replacement for Mr. Rao.
