A 23-year-old woman allegedly killed her four-year-old daughter before attempting suicide at Lenin Nagar in the town on Tuesday.
Police sources said D. Pavani, 23, allegedly strangulated her ailing daughter Srinidhi, 4, with a chunni at their home in Lenin Colony here late in the afternoon.
Pavani allegedly consumed rat poison immediately after resorting to the ghastly act. She was rushed to a local hospital by some neighbours.
Her condition was said to be stable.
Pavani’s husband was away from home when the incident occurred, sources said.
Police suspect family disputes and financial problems to be the reasons behind her extreme step.
The two town police registered a case and launched a detailed probe into the incident.
