Forceps found in woman’s abdomen

In a case of medical negligence, a pair of artery forceps was found in a 33-year-old woman's abdomen three months after she underwent surgery for hernia.

The woman identified as Maheshwari Choudary of Mangalhat underwent an operation on November 2 at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad on November 2. After making a good recovery, she was discharged on November 12.

Ms. Choudary was frequently complaining of severe stomach and abdominal pain.

Following which she was rushed to NIMS again, where doctors performed test and the botched operation came to light after the X-Ray showing the forceps inside her body.

On Saturday, another team of doctors performed another surgery to remove the forceps from her body.

A committee including dean, medical superintendent and a surgical gastroenterologist was formed to inquire into the issue.

Based on a complaint lodged by the patient's husband, Harshvardhan Choudary, the Punjagutta police registered a case on Saturday.
