With land acquisition for the prestigious Pharma City coming up on 19,000 acres in Mucherla village of Ranga Reddy district in full swing, fraudsters are on the prowl to make a quick buck.

According to the police, a person impersonated the owner of a nine-acre fertile land parcel in Medipally village in Yacharam mandal by blurring the image of the real owner on the Aadhaar card and sold the land to two of his associates. Finally, the duo sold the land to the government as part of land acquisition and claimed a compensation of ₹1.12 crore.

Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh. M. Bhagwat said eight persons were arrested in the case. He said M. Lakshmi Kanthaiah (60), along with his associate B. Rajashekar (41), hatched a plan to sell the land to the government by showing B. Appalachary, Rajashekar’s 74-year-old father, as K. Sataynarayana, who is original owner of the land.

Further, they executed sale deed of 4 acres and 20 guntas each to their associates I. Srinu (30), a farmer, and N. Narsimha, an auto driver. The accused Kanthaiah was known to Satyanarayana. A real estate broker Chitthuru Venkata Ramana allegedly helped the accused execute the plan and introduced them to Srinu and Narsimha.

“They paid ₹1 lakh to document writer Santosh Goud to manage the registration process and ₹10 lakh to real estate broker Ramana for his mediation,” said the Commissioner.

The fraud came to light when the victim’s family members visited the village during the revenue survey recently.

Then Srinivasa Rao, who is Sathyanarayana’s son-in-law and Income Tax Commissioner in Chennai, approached Mr. Bhagwat and explained the fraud to him.

Based on a complaint lodged by Ibrahimpatnam RDO Madhusudhan, the Rachakonda police arrested the eight persons — Lakhmi Kantaiah, Rajashekar, Appalachary, Srinu, Narsimha, Ramana, Santosh Goud, and I. Gopal, witness to the registration.

They were produced in a local court.
