All the private hospitals and nursing homes in the town remained closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday following the pen down strike called by the doctors of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar chapter.
The members of the IMA were demanding solution to a charter of demands, including protection of doctors from attacks. The doctors assembled at IMA hall and took out a procession to Collectorate in the town and staged a dharnacarrying placards and banners braving scorching heat. The IMA members led by its president Mohd Aleem, senior leaders V. Bhoom Reddy, E. Vijayender Reddy, M. Vijayalaxmi and others participated in the dharna. Later, they and later submitted a memorandum to Joint Collector B. Srinivas.
The doctors were demanding that the government take stringent action against the persons involved in the attacks on doctors and hospitals.
They demanded uniform MBBS final exams for all with no EXIT test; and one drug, one company and one price; among other demands.
The medicos of Chalmeda Ananda Rao Institute of Medical Sciences and Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences also participated in the dharna.
