Even as the police are trying to solve the mystery behind the murder of Dawood Khan (58) and his wife Rehane Begum (53) at a famous Dargah in Jankampet on April 23, the death of 24-year-old Farooq, a relative of theirs, on Saturday, complicated the investigation.
The body of Farooq was recovered under an electric pole in an agriculture field in Jamlam village under Yedapally police station limits. The body bore burns on both palms giving room to suspicion that he may have committed suicide by holding the electric wire. However, his relatives and MIM leaders alleged that the youth was tortured by the police, leading to his death.
Police deny
torture
Denying the torture angle, Superintendent of Police S. Chandrashekar Reddy said that though the police summoned Farooq along with others to the police station for interrogation in the double murder case, he was set free immediately. Thereafter, he went missing and the police, on the basis of a complaint lodged by his parents, registered a missing case on April 27, he said.
He also said that Farooq used to behave strangely as he was an artificial toddy addict and had come back from Dubai after a brief stay there as he suffered from withdrawal symptoms.
The case is being investigated from all angles and the culprits will definitely be brought to book, said Mr. Chandrashekar Reddy.
The MIM MLA from Karwan, Kousermoinuddin, meanwhile, called on the families of Dawood Khan and Farooq and assured them of all possible help from the party and government. Describing the deaths as ‘most unfortunate’, he warned the police against negligence in solving the case.
