The Communist Party of India state unit has announced its decision to support TRS candidate Saidi Reddy in the forthcoming bypoll to the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency.
The CPI state secretariat which met on Tuesday has resolved to support the TRS candidate. Interestingly, the decision was taken hours before the election officials rejected the papers filed by the CPI (Marxist) candidate P. Sekhar Rao on technical grounds.
The decision follows the meeting of TRS leaders led by K. Keshav Rao and Khammam MP Nama Nageswar Rao with the CPI leadership two days ago. The CPI leadership at that point of time told the TRS delegation that the party would take a 'considered view' of the decision after a meeting of the state secretariat.
The decision reinforces the claims in the political circles about the widened rift in the two major Left parties that "now calls for intervention by the respective central leaderships".
