Corporators’ role in development stressed

Collector D. Ronald Ross said that the city would progress in all aspects when the elected representatives in the municipal corporation understood the civic administration, their rights and duties, government orders and guidelines and discharged their duties in an effective manner. Addressing the inaugural session of the three day training programme being conducted for the corporators by the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Council, here on Thursday, he explained the role of the civic body and its members in the city development. He wanted the corporators to begin as students in the training programme.

Inaugurating the camp MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta said that the first time elected members must know their duties and also the needs of people and their solutions. He suggested them to understand the civic problems thoroughly before embarking on solving them.

MLC Arkala Narsa Reddy said that the role of corporators was very important in the civic body and they should focus their attention on the issues of social security pensions, ration cards, roads, sanitation, drinking water supply and drains and so on. He said the corporation and panchayat levels were stepping stones to ascend higher rungs in the political ladder and therefore they should be aware of it to go closer to people and build up career.

Mayor Akula Sujatha said that all corporators would try to understand the classes in the training camp.
