Conservation plan for vultures in place

A conservation plan for the Bejjur vultures in Adilabad district has finally been put into place by the Forest Department with an initial fund of Rs. 5 lakh.

A researcher and a base camp with five field staff has come up in the Murliguda forest beat in Bejjur Range where the habitat of the vultures is located on a cliff named Pala Rapu. Announcing the development at a press conference at Kagaznagar on Wednesday, Adilabad Chief Conservator of Forest T.P. Thimma Reddy, Kagaznagar Divisional Forest Officer M. Siva Prasad and Bejjur Range Officer M. Ram Mohan said the critically endangered scavenger birds will also be provided with food in the form of a goat or sheep carcass every week. The researcher and the base camp staff will track the birds in terms of numbers, feeding habits and their range of flight.
