‘Changes in lifestyle help in managing epilepsy’

The Association of Physicians of India (API) Karimnagar chapter in association with KIMS Hyderabad conducted a day-long workshop on “Epilepsy –current concepts in the management” in Karimnagar on Sunday.

API chairman D.C. Tirupathi Rao, convenor D. Raghuraman, secretary M. Vijaymohan Reddy, treasurer T. Mohan Rao , and KIMS course director Sita Jayalaxmi were present.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that there are 45 cases of epilepsy for every one lakh population and 80 seizures for every one lakh population.

They said that the lifestyle and quality of life of patients matters for the discussion and treatment.

They also said that the research in the field should reach the periphery and benefit the patients.

During the technical sessions, the doctors discussed about definition, classification and evaluation of epilepsy, guidelines in the management of epilepsy – paediatric and adult epilepsies, illustrative epilepsy cases on man management issues, guidelines in the management of status epilepticus, epilepsy surgery when to refer cases, etc.
