Her penchant for Telugu literature and unflinching affection for mother tongue enabled her climb the ladder of success and become a government teacher in her native place. Gurram Usha, 27, who has been visually challenged since birth, pursued her studies in Yellendu, Vijayawada, Nalgonda and Hyderabad with remarkable grit.
A native of Yellendu town, Usha, surpassed several hurdles posed by the demise of her father during childhood and subsequent financial problems with unwavering resolve.
She completed her dream course of B.Ed from Andhra Mahila Sabha College of Education in Hyderabad.
Her untiring efforts bore fruit when she got selected as school assistant in DSC-2012. Subsequently, she got appointed as Telugu teacher in the government high school in Yellendu.
Usha took teaching as a challenge and earned a niche for herself in teaching Telugu with remarkable ease in a short span. Blessed with a gifted voice, Usha recites Telugu poems and Sathakams with amazing aptitude.
I consider it a noble opportunity to serve the cause of poor students and the mother tongue, says Usha.
“Whatever I am today is because of my mother Seshamma who toiled hard to support my education, says Usha, who is now the sole breadwinner of her family consisting of mother, a sister and a visually challenged brother.
I derive great satisfaction in teaching Telugu language particularly the sathakams, the treasure trove of moral values, to schoolchildren. As the name itself denotes mother tongue deserves motherly affection as it is the fundamental communication tool of every human being.
One has to master his/her mother tongue to gain complete grasp over other languages be it English or Hindi, she emphasises.
