The leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana State unit severely criticised the Telangana State government over incomplete irrigation projects and other issues at a public meeting organised on the ‘Telangana Poru Yatra Divas’ here on Monday.
Party State president G. Kishan Reddy alleged that the TRS government was merely deceiving people by announcing various projects while not actually having funds to execute them. He cited issues of power shortage in the new State and the defunct fee reimbursement and loan waiver schemes as examples for the same.
Accusing Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao of feigning ignorance about farmers’ suicides, he said all the lift irrigation projects in the State were still have to be completed and that Palamoor LI scheme was found only on paper. He sought to know how the government planned to bring water for the drinking water grid project if irrigation projects were incomplete. “The CM stays for a whole day in Mahabubnagar and sanctions just one bore-well? Why is the CM’s presence needed for works to be done? What happened to the established systems?” he questioned.
Mr. Reddy came down heavily on Mr. Rao over his praise of the Nizam and sought to know if he meant that the Nizam did not commit any atrocities.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government does not discriminate against any State,” he said, urging people to strengthen the hand of the BJP for Telangana’s development. Senior leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy listed out pending projects in the district, including the Kalwakurthi, Nettempadu, Bhima, Koilsagar and Sangambanda, and said he would fight till their completion.
He questioned why the government had not announced drought-affected mandals despite the continuing suicides by farmers. Expenditure estimates for water grid and Mission Kakatiya were unreal and were meant only to benefit contractors, he alleged. Chairman of the Political JAC M. Kodandaram said martyrs of the Telangana struggle should not be forgotten. Mr. Kishan Reddy, who arrived on the banks of the river Krishna in a bullock cart rally, performed a ‘yagna’ to commemorate martyrs and offered prayers to the river. A photo exhibition of the ‘Poru Yatra in 2012’ was held and a blood donation camp was organised.
