Squarely blaming the TRS government for the miserable plight of debt-ridden farmers, BJP State president G. Kishan Reddy alleged that the “callous disregard” of TRS regime towards the debt woes of distressed farmers was taking a heavy toll on distraught peasants.
Mr. Reddy participated in a rally christened “Rythu Rakshana Yatra” organised by the party here on Tuesday demanding urgent steps to provide succour to the debt-ridden farmers.
The BJP floor leader in the Telangana Assembly, K. Laxman , the party district president K. Sridhar Reddy and others took part in the rally.
Addressing a demonstration near the Collectorate, Mr. Kishan Reddy slammed the TRS government for allegedly remaining insensitive to the unabated farmer suicides in the State.
The TRS government came to power by promising to undo the gross injustices meted out to the farming community during the previous Congress regime, he said, criticising the TRS government for allegedly leaving the misery stricken farmers in dire straits after taking over the reins of the new State of Telangana last year.
Farm loan waiver
The TRS government failed to alleviate the debt woes of the distressed farmers and implement one-time settlement of farm loan waiver, he alleged, charging the persons at the helm of affairs with solely focussing on encouraging ‘defections’ from other parties into the ruling party.
The police detained several BJP leaders and activists when they tried to enter into the Collectorate en masse demanding concrete steps to help distressed farmers overcome the present crisis.
Later, Mr. Kishan Reddy consoled the family members of a deceased tenant farmer at Kotapadu in Raghunadhapalem mandal.
According to the party sources, Mr. Reddy donated Rs. 20,000 to the kin of the deceased farmer.
