Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had suggested having small States, and based on the same, Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
Rich tributes were paid to Dr. Ambedkar, fondly called Baba Saheb, on Friday on the occasion of his 126th birth anniversary. Mr. Rao participated in a programme marking the occasion in Siddipet, while Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy participated in a similar programme at Medak and Legislative Council chairman K. Addressing the well-attended gatherings, the leaders called upon the youth to follow the footsteps of Dr. Ambedkar.
Mr. Rao said the Telangana government has taken up different programmes for the development of the downtrodden. He has also spoke about the proposed increase in reservations for various sections by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
“The government has been making efforts to provide quality education for all so that they can stand on their feet. Residential schools and hostels are being built for BC, SC and ST students,” said Mr. Goud. The government has extended financial assistance to over 60,000 Dalit girls, he added.
