‘Allow Lambada doctors in PHCs’

Services of all doctors are required, more so during emergencies: deputy DMHO

The deputy District Medical and Health Officer for Agency areas in erstwhile united Adilabad district, Kumram Balu, on Monday appealed to the Adivasis to allow Lambada doctors to work in primary health centres in the interest of ailing people. He said services of all doctors were required, more so during emergencies, referring to the Adivasi movement demanding removal of Lambada tribe from the list of STs.

Dr. Balu made the appeal citing Soyam Renuka, an Adivasi woman from Rupapur, Gadiguda mandal, who delivered a baby in an auto on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the deputy DMHO said Renuka and her baby were in good health and under the care of doctors and health staff. The baby was born in the auto as the pregnant women could not reach the PHC owing to a swollen stream cutting off the road from their village to Gadiguda mandal head quarters.

The mother and baby were attended to by the medical team from Gadiguda PHC once the flood abated in the stream. They were subsequently brought to the PHC.
