Adivasis from across undivided Adilabad district on Monday demanded the government not to issue Agency Area certificates to Lambada applicants.

They also wanted compensation amount sanctioned to Adivasis who had lost their homes and crops during the recent flood in the district. About 300 aboriginal persons belonging to a host of Adivasi organisations led by the Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samithi, also known as Tudum Debba, staged a protest in front of the collectorate. They accused the government of causing injustice to Adivasis by issuing Agency Area certificates to Lambadas, whom they do not consider to be Scheduled Tribes.

Tudum Debba State president Soyam Bapu Rao demanded the government of following G.O. 24 with regard to issue of the certificates which is essential for obtaining jobs in tribal area. He accused Tahsildars of violating the G.O. by issuing the certificates to Lambada applicants.

District Collector D. Divya, who arrived at the protest camp assured the agitators of no discrimination against the ethnic people in the issue of the certificates. She said the issue of certificates had been temporarily suspended.
