Martyrs’ Day observed in Khammam

Martyrs’ Day, marking the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, was observed across the district on Monday.

Minister for Roads and Buildings T. Nageswara Rao unveiled the statue of the Father of the Nation at the Zilla Parishad High School in Pindiprolu, Tirumalayapalem mandal, on the occasion.

ZP chairperson G. Kavitha and chief executive officer M. Nagesh, among others, were present. The officials and staff of various government departments, led by Collector D.S. Lokesh Kumar, observed two minutes of silence at the Collectorate on Monday morning.

Across the district, employees in government offices paid homage to the freedom fighter. Officials turned up in handloom clothes at the weekly grievance redressal meeting held at the ZP conference hall, symbolising Gandhian ideals of promotion of handloom and other cottage industries.
