Adilabad district police on Monday arrested Maoist Tekam Ravi alias Ravinder (22), a member of Indervelli dalam, who is an accused in the murder of Gond youth Kursenga Ballarsha last year in Tiryani mandal. The naxalite was heading towards Tiryani mandal headquarters and was waiting for transport at IB Tandur when the police arrested him and seized two banners from his possession.

Presenting him before the media at a press conference, Adilabad Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal said he had joined the underground outfit about two years ago and was deputed to Indervelli dalam with instructions to kill informers, police and politicians. He used to work under Athram Shoban alias Charles, who is the Adilabad Area Committee secretary of Maoists and a native of Tiryani mandal.

Giving details of the murder of Ballarsha, the SP said the accused number one in the same case, Chunchula Bakkanna had formed a team of 20 extremists, including Ravi, on October 30, last year. The team accused Ballarsha of being a police informer and killed him on the outskirts of his village Kheriguda.

The arrested Maoist was later involved in an exchange of fire with the police in the forest of Khanapur and escaped to Karimnagar subsequently where he worked as a rig agent. He was assigned the task of pasting posters in view of the Maoist commemoration week which had brought him to IB Tandur.

Mr. Duggal appreciated the role of policemen, especially Bellampally and Nirmal DSPs A. Ramana Reddy and T. Manohar Reddy, respectively.

He said suitable rewards were given to all those who were involved in the arrest of the extremist.
