International workshop at Mandollagudem observatory

A five-day Sixteenth International Association for Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) workshop on Geomagnetic observatory instruments, data acquisition and processing commenced at the National Geophysical Research Institute’s (NGRI) observatory located at Mandollagudem village of Choutuppal mandal in Nalgonda district on Tuesday. Speaking to The Hindu , senior scientist Kusumita Arora said that the workshop is being held once in every two years. The previous two workshops were held in China and USA in 2012 and 2010 respectively.

Foreign delegates

During the present workshop, she said as many as 60 delegates, including 22 foreign delegates, are participating. The delegates will compare absolute and variation instruments during the workshop. The workshop is jointly organised by the NGRI and Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG). Between October 13-16, the scientific sessions of IAGA workshop will be held at NGRI’s Hyderabad campus in which an increased number of scientists from both from India and across the globe will take part.
