Home Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy said that despite attempts by Andhra leaders, the Telangana government would complete construction of irrigation projects in the State and extend irrigation to about 1 crore acres.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the first jail museum in the district headquarters on Sunday, Mr. Narasimha Reddy said that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Opposition leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy were trying to obstruct irrigation projects in Telangana.
“Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is a God’s gift for Telangana. We are planning to supply irrigation for north Telangana from Kaleswaram and for south Telangana from Palamuru- Ranga Reddy project,” he said, adding that while Congress leaders were trying to politicise the issue, the Telangana Telugu Desam Party leaders spoke ill about it at the Tirupati meeting.
Talking about the police department, the Home Minister said that funds were released for modernisation of the department, and new vehicles and one lakh CCTV cameras were provided to them which were instrumental in reducing the crime rate in the State.
Informing that more machines and industries would be sanctioned for the jails, Mr. Reddy said that the jails have become transformation centres. Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy said that people are happy with friendly policing, which was introduced by the Telangana government.
Vinoy Kumar Singh, Director General of Prisions Department, said that this museum would be a good attraction for tourists from Hyderabad.
He said that they were planning to transform Jail Department as a revenue generation one, and by 2030 the department would become self sufficient and may be in a position to pay back the government as well.
Lok Sabha member K. Prabhakar Reddy, MLA Ch. Prabhakar, Superintendent of Police Chandrasekhar Reddy, and Additional Joint Collector Venkateswarlu participated in the programme.
The jail was constructed in 1796 and is spread over 3.1 acres.
