From the hills of northeast to the plains of the Deccan, the journey that hundreds of students have taken has enriched them with varied experiences – both professionally and personally.

For most of these students from northeastern States who are pursuing higher studies in Hyderabad, this is perhaps the first time they experience the diversity of their own country. A majority of them feel it leaves them with not just great memories, but a pathway for professional growth.

Hyderabad is now a second home for the students of northeast studying in prestigious institutions such as University of Hyderabad (UoH) and English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) and they all agree that these institutions provide them an exceptional platform to build an all-round personality. These universities assure students of inclusive growth in every domain, be it research acumen, interpersonal and communication skills, or professional development.

Anindit Dutta, pursuing Masters in Applied Linguistics at UoH, says, “I chose this university as it’s one of the best in the country. I plan to become an academician and so far, this institution has given me the platform to acquire the required skills to go deep into my subject.” He is glad to see his fellow neighbours from all the eight States pursuing higher education here.

“The EFLU offers specialised courses and the English teaching-learning fraternity in Assam identifies it to be a premier institute for English studies. This is the reason that brought me to Hyderabad to study MA in English. Subsequently, I completed my M.Phil, Ph.D and PGCTE from here,” says Kabira Chiring.

She further shared, “The liberal atmosphere on the campus allowed me to explore diverse professional opportunities. Many of my friends from EFLU are now placed in prestigious institutes all over the country. I qualified the UGC-NET as a student of EFLU and got placed as Assistant Professor in English with B. Borooah College, Guwahati, Assam, a notable academic institution in the region.”

“I got through the entrance test and pursued my research at UoH. I finished M.Phil there and moved to EFLU for my Ph.D which helped me obtain access to new networks which eventually became my professional support,” says Rajarshi Mitra, Assistant Professor, IIT Guwahati.

Both UoH and EFLU inculcated a strong sense of individualism, perseverance and libertarianism that made him land his dream job. The multi-cultural atmosphere in the growing city with rich diversity has also helped the northeastern students to mingle with others easily. A highly competitive atmosphere on these campuses has opened new doors for students that they hardly thought of back home. In fact, a lot of them cracked the State-level examinations to get into State services in the northeastern States and they feel they could overcome the competition given the strong foundation laid in this city.

No wonder the city now sees an ever increasing number of students from these States and they are accepted with open arms too.
