Collector expresses dismay over lack of toilets

January 06, 2017 07:44 pm | Updated 07:44 pm IST - ADILABAD:

Mancherial Collector R.V. Karnan on Thursday expressed surprise and dismay over the lack of individual latrines in Valmikinagar, which is located in the middle of the district headquarters town.

Mr. Karnan was astonished to find that 600 residents of the locality had built a temple but not even a single toilet despite the government taking efforts in the direction.

During a visit to the colony, the Collector told the residents that open defecation was the root cause of health problems, urging them to construct latrines as part of the Swacch Bharat scheme.

Mr. Karnan sanctioned 15 latrines for the colony and asked officials to get those constructed before Republic Day on January 26. He also asked the parents of children found working in the colony not encourage child labour.
