Till Wednesday evening, both Alige Tukkamma and Alige Jayamma were working in a field and they did not know what happened in Hyderabad and how they were being discussed in the media.

Residents of Bardipur in Jarasangam mandal of Medak district, they are in their late 40s, and had sleepless nights for many days fearing over their future. As land in many villages is being acquired by the government under GO 123, they were worried about being displaced. Supported by Telangana Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham and along with another 18 farm labourers, both of them filed a petition in court challenging the land acquisition under the GO stating that farm labourers and other artisans were being neglected by the government who had no place to go to survive. Responding to their petition, the High Court quashed the GO on Wednesday. “We are happy to hear that we won the case and hope that we get justice with the support of the court,” said Tukkamma and Jayamma.
