Ibrahimpur, the village located in the border with Karimnagar and in the Siddipet constituency being represented by Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, is all set to create a record of sorts once again.

During last year it was in the news and attracted a large number of visitors from across the country for successfully digging soak pits in all the houses with cent percent target achievement. The result was so amazing that the dried-up borewells came to life again and ground water levels increased considerably.

With such a grand success in hand, the village is venturing for a second feat, this time planting as many as 2.10 lakh saplings. According to plans, each elderly person will plant about 200 saplings. The programme would commence on July 8 and ia expected to get completed within a month’s period.

During the previous Haritha Haaram programme, the villagers were able to plant about 40,000 saplings in 15 days without proper planning and advance preparation but the survival rate was about 90 per cent. The planning has been made with very detail, that who should bring the saplings in tractors, who is going to take care of them, who will dig pits and so on has been worked out.

The villagers dug trenches for about 700 acres of farm land to save rain water and the sapling would be planted on the borders of trenches, farm division lines and all other vacant places.

“We are confident that we can achieve the target of planting 2.1 lakh saplings within one month. We were able to save about 35,000 saplings planted last year. In the next few days you cannot find any vacant space in the village,” K. Yella Reddy, a resident of the village leading the plantation programme told The Hindu .

Meanwhile, Collector D. Ronald Rose informed that the administration is getting ready to plant 3.4 crore saplings this year under Haritha Haaram programme and each village would be supplied about 40,000 saplings. The plantation would take place along with 160 kilometres of R&B Roads and 1,800 kilometres of panchayat roads.
