In a gruesome incident, a seven-year-old girl sustained burns after being allegedly hit by her close relative with a hot metal utensil at Balajinagar in Yellendu town on Thursday.

P. Harika, 7, whose father died a few years ago and mother reportedly deserted her, faced the wrath of her close relative Varalakshmi for the simple reason that she sought to eat egg curry prepared by the latter, sources added. Varalakshmi was furious when Harika expressed her wish to eat some egg curry prepared by the woman for her son. In a fit of rage, Varalakshmi hit Harika with a hot utensil, inflicting severe burns on her back. When the girl cried out in pain, the woman allegedly locked her up in the bathroom, sources added. On hearing the girl’s screams, the neighbours alerted the Women and Child Development Agency.
