A fire accident gutted 56 ambulances parked in the GVK-EMRI 108 office’s backyard at Devar Yamzal, Medchal, on Monday afternoon. All of the ambulances were defunct and there were plans to sell them as scrap. While 30 vehicles were of GVK-EMRI, 26 belonged to Telangana government.

The GVK-EMRI administration said that the scrap ambulances were parked in there from the past 10 years, where there is a lot of dry grass. Sreekar, deputy manager, said three fire engines brought the fire under control in 45 minutes. The dry grass must have caught fire, which spread to the vehicles, it is suspected.

Meanwhile, another fire accident was reported in a paper godown in Bowenpally, which was brought under control.
