The Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board will be sending around 40 farmers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to participate in the Conference of Parties–12 (CoP-12) in October. The decision was taken by the Board after consultation with the government.
The group, hailing from various districts, will visit Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea between October 1 and 15, said R. Hampaiah, chairman, A.P. State Biodiversity Board (APSBB) at a press conference here on Wednesday.
The CoP–12 is being organised at South Korea and Dr. Hampaiah recently attended the advisory committee meeting held there recently. “The aim is to help farmers get a first hand account of benefits reaped by various countries after taking up biodiversity preserving measures,” he said.
He also said that the Board was conducting training programmes for village-level management committees in different aspects of biodiversity. “We are creating awareness in them about taking up plantation of various species of trees and the benefits they can reap through it,” Mr. Hampaiah said.
