2-BHK houses yet to be grounded

Medak, Sangareddy yet to reap the benefits of government’s flagship programme

The double-bedroom housing (2BHK), one of the flagship programmes of the State government, is yet to get grounded in parts of Medak, the erstwhile native district of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Medak district was trifurcated as Medak, Siddipet and Sangareddy districts.

The 2BHK scheme was initially launched at Yerravally and Narsannapet villages in Markook mandal of Siddipet district soon after Telangana formation and they were completed early this year.

Of the total 8,434 houses (4,024 houses in rural followed by 4,410 houses in urban areas) allotted for Siddipet district, 568 houses were completed so far while tenders were called for 8,092 houses.

Tender finalisation and commencement of work began for all those houses. The housing scheme got a lion’s share with an estimated cost of ₹436.04 crore.

Coming to Medak district, from the total 2,201 houses (1,651 in rural areas followed by 550 houses in urban areas) sanctioned, tenders were called for 1,971 houses and finalised for 590 houses while construction was taken up for 360 houses. The estimated cost of the housing scheme was ₹ 112.36 crore.

In the case of Sangareddy district, tenders were called for all the 1,900 (480 houses in urban area followed by 1,420 houses in rural area) houses allotted, followed by finalising of tenders for 740 houses, while construction of only 14 houses was grounded.

These houses will be completed at an estimated cost of ₹ 97.01 crore.

The authorities are focusing more on speedy completion of work.

Recently, Chitra Ramachandran, Special Chief Secretary, Housing, visited the district headquarters and held a review meeting with the Collectors of three districts – Manickaraj Kannan (Sangareddy), P Venkataram Reddy (Siddipet) and Bharati Hollikeri (Medak).

Mr Venkataram Reddy got special appreciation from Ms. Chitra for being top in the State for implementation of the scheme.
