In a major heist , 10 kg gold valued at Rs. 3 crore and about Rs. 13 lakh cash was stolen from the Grameena Vikas Bank at Balanagar mandal headquarters near Shadnagar of Mahabubnagar district in the early hours of Monday.

“The burglars entered the bank by cutting the rear door with the help of a gas cutter . Once inside, they removed the grill and cut open the iron chest and took away the gold ornaments and cash,” Shadnagar DSP K. Dronacharyulu said.

No security guard

Although, closed circuit cameras were installed on the premises, the burglars took away the hard disk and Direct Video Recorder (DVR) along with them.

The bank did not have any security guard, police officials said.

According to the police, the bank staff locked the premises on Saturday evening and returned for duties on Monday only to find the office ransacked and property missing.

The bank is located on the first floor of the building on the Balanagar and Shadnagar road.
