It’s official now. The Government of Telangana has given up on the seven mandals of Khammam district which were transferred to Andhra Pradesh by the Centre by enacting Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (amendment) Bill, 2014, in July.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao admitted it officially that they were part of Andhra Pradesh now. Asked why the Intensive Household Survey was not taken up in the seven mandals, he said Parliament had settled the issue making an act on the transfer of mandals, irrespective of protest by Telangana.
They survey was not taken up there as they were part of Andhra Pradesh now, he clarified. When pointed out that he had talked about moving the Supreme Court on the issue in the past, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said: “When Parliament has made an act, what’s the use in such an exercise”.
Under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2014, 211 villages of Chintoor, Kunavaram, Bhadrachalam (excluding Bhadrachalam revenue village) Vara Ramachandra Puram, Bhurgampadu, Kukunoor and Velairpadu mandals were transferred to AP.
