The Centre on Friday sought a report from the Goa government on alleged sexual assault of a young journalist by Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal.

In a communication, the Home Ministry asked the Goa authorities to send a status report on the action taken by the police in the case relating to the alleged assault in a luxurious hotel about ten days ago.

The ministry has also asked the state government to give details about the sequence of events which took place during a literary function organised by the weekly news magazine in the tourist hot spot.

After the email by the woman journalist of the magazine accusing him of sexual assault was made public, Mr. Tejpal had announced on Wednesday night that he was “recusing” from his job for six months.

The Goa police on Friday filed an FIR against Mr. Tejpal in connection with the case.
