A woman committed suicide after recording a video clip on her mobile phone announcing that she was taking the extreme step unable to bear the harassment for dowry by her husband. The man has been arrested.
Gowri, 24, daughter of Gowthaman residing at Rayapuram, Nidamangalam in Tiruvarur district, was married for four years to Murugappan of Sidhapattu village.
She had sought a divorce from him alleging dowry harassment. Even as the case was pending at the Mannargudi court, relatives brought about a patch-up between them, resulting in Gowri reuniting with Murugappan for the sake of their two-year-old daughter Pradiksha. But Murugappan started torturing Gowri again for dowry. Fed up with this, she hanged herself.
