Woman attempts self-immolation

Annakili, 28, of Perumbakkam Colony in Kancheepuram taluk attempted self-immolation at a grievance day meeting at the Collectorate on Monday.

The woman, who entered the meeting hall with a lunch carrier filled with kerosene, poured it on herself and tried to set herself afire.

Land dispute

Meanwhile, her mother, A. Deivanai, presented a petition stating that her family was being tortured by relatives over a land issue. Repeated complaints given in this regard to the revenue and police authorities had not yielded any result, she alleged.

Police removed Annakili and her mother from the hall.
