The district administration will initiate steps for setting up a petrol pump in Manamelkudi to address the fuel needs of the fishermen, said S.Ganesh, Collector. Addressing the fishers at a special grievances day meeting at Manamelkudi on Thursday, he said that steps would be taken to provide underground drainage facility to the town. Adequate awareness would be created among fishers on the adverse impact of pair-trawling nets on marine wealth. Later, he gave away assistance totalling Rs.3.66 lakh to 28 beneficiaries.
