A 29-year-old man was reportedly strangulated to death by his wife in Arakkonam after a quarrel broke out between them on Sunday night.
Prabhu, a resident of Mosur Pillayar Temple Street in Arakkonam, was working in a company in Ambattur.
He got married to Lakshmi a few years ago and they have two children aged seven and two respectively.
Sources said that Prabhu often picked up quarrel with his wife in an inebriated condition.
On Sunday night, there was an altercation between them and in a fit of rage, Lakshmi allegedly strangulated him with the dupatta. She realised her mistake when he fell unconscious and rushed him to the hospital.
However he was declared dead upon arrival. The police have detained her and further investigation is on.
Woman murdered
Meanwhile, a 52-year-old woman was murdered in Perambedu in Vellore district on Monday morning. The victim, identified as Lalitha, 52, was killed after a boulder was dropped on her head.
