Corporation health officials removed a water tank which was posing as a mosquito breeding source in a private school at Muthazhagupatti here on Thursday.
With the commencement of rainy season, there was a possibility of outbreak of waterborne diseases. Stagnant water in open spaces and potable water stored in open containers were ideal places for mosquitoes spreading dengue fever to lay eggs and for their multiplication, said health officials.
The team also inspected houses at Muthazhagupatti.
Earlier, a team of officials detected larvae in the drinking water tank in the school and asked the school authorities to clean the tank and ensure protected drinking water. But the school did not clean it.
During inspection on Thursday morning, the health officials found that the condition of tank was very bad. Hence they removed it.
“We have been creating awareness of dengue fever among people,” said Corporation Health Officer M. Anitha. Schools had been advised to offer ‘Nilavembu kashayam’ to children. Residents had been advised to keep all water containers closed.
The district administration had directed the corporation to remove cement and plastic tanks that generates dengue larvae, she added.
