Residents of Karatazhaganpatti village laid siege to Dindigul Government Hospital on Tuesday, demanding registration of murder case against persons responsible for the death of Sivakumar (26) of Karatazhaganpatti.
They complained that Sivakumar and three others had a quarrel near a Tasmac outlet at Narasingapuram on Monday night.
The wordy duel turned into a clash, in which the trio beat Sivakumar up.
In a bid to escape from them, he ran into a farm and fell into a well there.
Police registered a case under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code and arrested three persons – Arokia Jayasundaram, (28), John Peter (24) and Alphonse (49) of A. Vellode.
However, the agitators demanded that the police should register a case under Section 302 of the IPC.
The police said Sivakumar fell into a well and died.
A case was registered and three persons who quarrelled with him were arrested immediately.
Sufficient force was deployed in the hospital. Deputy Superintendents of Police Vanitha and M. Ramachandran held talks with the agitators.
Around 2.30 p.m., the parents and relatives of the deceased accepted the body after post-mortem as the police said they would proceed with the case on receipt of the post-mortem report.
