Thousands of people took the pledge to vote without accepting cash or gifts in the May 16 Assembly polls, on Tuesday. As many as 12,35,258 people took the pledge at 9,248 places in the district, according to a press release.
At the Fort Ground, Collector Rajendra Ratnoo, who is also the District Election Officer, administered the pledge to nearly 5,000 people who had gathered at the spot.
Good response
The call received good response among people from various walks of life. The police stopped traffic at a few signals and took the oath. Students and staff of Muthurangam Government Arts College, doctors, nurses and staff of Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, nursing faculty and staff of Christian Medical College, postal department staff, members of Vannigar Sangangalin Perammaippu, Vellore, Uzhavar Sandhai, Vellore and VIT University took the pledge.
In Tiruvannamalai
Collector Pooja Kulkarni and host of government officials and members of public took a pledge on ethical voting here on Tuesday.
Ms. Kulkarni administered the pledge to the officials.
