‘He doesn’t know history of Cauvery issue’

Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani on Tuesday condemned Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan’s meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday and said the actor-turned-politician should first know about the history of the Cauvery issue before making statements about holding talks. In a statement, Mr. Veeramani asked, “He went for the meeting as whose representative? What is the connection between him and those who have fought for Tamil Nadu’s rights over the Cauvery water through protests and cases in courts?” He asked whether Mr. Haasan knew about the “length, breadth and depth” of this issue. “He might need this issue as an ‘act’ for his political journey, but is there any good reason for his blabbering about talks on this issue?” Mr. Veeramani asked.

Nothing wrong: Rajini

Meanwhile, actor Rajinikanth said that there is nothing wrong in Mr. Haasan meeting Mr. Kumarasamy over the Cauvery river water dispute.

“It is an effort that he has taken. Lets us see what comes out of it. There is nothing wrong in making an effort and developing a cordial relationship with another State,” said Mr. Rajinikanth.

He said that he didn’t expect a ban on his film, Kaala in Bengaluru. “I am sure that the Karnataka government will support the release of film. Deve Gowda will not allow it,” he said.

Mr. Rajinikanth also said that T.N. government must put an end to student suicide over NEET.
